We've gone to the movies twice since I've been home in Lake Charles for Christmas, and both times I have been extremely frustrated! I don't know if I've just had bad luck, but I think the etiquette of movie-goers in the South is quite different than other areas. People talk so much! I probably am a little senstive to this since it really gets on my nerves, but can't a girl go to the movies and enjoy a nice, quiet theater?
We went to see I Am Legend on Christmas Day, and the theater was pretty loud. The movie was intense, but there were a lot of times when the movies was pretty quiet with no music at all. But oh no, the people in the theater made up for this. It was so loud with people throughout the theater talking!
THEN, last night for our anniversary we went to see P.S. I Love You, and this was probably the worst theater experience of my life! The movie wasn't bad, but I was sitting right next to this older, southern couple that must have thought they were at home, watching the movie on their sofa. First, they realize that they know a couple of ladies in the row right in front of them. So the husband starts throwing popcorn at them! (He must have been in his 50's or 60's - obviously old enough to know better.) I don't care if you know someone or not, you just don't throw popcorn on them in a movie theater! Then throughout the movie, he and his wife had to make an audible comment about EVERYTHING! They would read the words on the screen, have discussions about how the plot was unfolding, etc. I cleared my throat several times, even did the "Sshh" thing once, and sat forward and plugged my ears. We made eye contact a few times. They might have caught our hints by the end of the movie, and were luckily a little quieter by then. But I've learned my lesson - don't try to have an enjoyable movie experience in Lake Charles!

Maybe it's not the theater as much as it's just you. jk! At an unnamed movie theater in Salt Lake, there were three cell phone incidents while I was there. Some guy actually answered his phone and said "I can't talk right now." I thought that was the point of turning your phone off.
And you know if the hints don't work, you can always do what that one lady did to Yvette--yank on their hair. :)
