I haven't blogged on here a lot lately, so here are a few things I've been thinking about blogging. Just a random assortment:
1) I think the whole obesity/childhood obesity problem in America has gotten out of control. What made me realize this? Shopping with my little sister at JCPenney, and coming upon a plus sizes section for little girls. Wow.
2) I recently threw away a bottle of nail polish that was 16 years old. No lie. Someone gave it to me when I had appendicitis. So then I looked through my nail polish collection and threw away 12 more bottles (most of them from high school days or older). Plus I threw away some hotel soap that said "Blue Boar Inn" from our honeymoon. Wow. I need to work on suppressing my pat rack tendencies.
3) I've realized I feel much more sympathy for homeless people who sit on corners holding signs, as opposed to those who come up to you and ask for money. And I'm much more likely to give the sign-holders money. Some guy came up to me two days ago and asked for money; I didn't give him any but wished him luck. As I walked away, I looked back twice and he was just standing there staring at me (and as you're walking away, what do you think someone's staring at)? So I very firmly (and a little rudely) said, "Can you stop staring at me please?" He said he was looking at my shoes (maybe, but still made me uncomfortable), and asked if they were Adidas. I said no (again very rudely) and kept walking, and he quit staring. Goodness! I am not okay with people staring at me! Then I thought, what if he was just staring at my shoes? But a girl's got to be careful, and got to stand up for herself. I saw this same guy on our street yesterday - not cool! I hope he clears out soon. And if I turn up missing - the guy is in his 30's, african american, and fairly short (probably 5'5 or shorter). You know, just in case. :)
3) We had a wasp in our house today, and it made me wonder: what happens when kitties get stung by wasps? It also made me remember when wasps/bees got into our house when my sisters and I were all little. We would go hide in the bathroom and stuff towels at the bottom of the door while mom bravely got rid of the scary insect. Because I'm sure wasps fly through that little crack under doors all the time. Now if it had been a roach, our caution would have been a little more appropriate.
4) Life is crazy, just crazy.
5) I'm grateful for amazing blessings, like getting set up with the perfect visiting teaching companion.
6) I thought I was maybe getting a little tired of travelling (it can be a lot of work). Until I got super excited when our next trip to Mexico was booked (picture me doing the classic Home Alone fist pump). Yeah, I don't think I'll ever be over travelling.
7) I think we've FINALLY won our battle with Sears. They've told us they will completely replace our TV with a brand new one! Sweet! But it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings (which I just learned is in reference to operas - makes so much more sense now!). Anyways, I'll believe it when I've got that new TV sitting in my living room. And I'm sure I'll post about it at that time. Oh, and I am so glad I made one last ditch effort and filed a complaint through the Better Business Bureau - it worked!!
8) The Fugitive is one of my favorite movies. So good, and such good comical relief. And it's not too bad watching it in my parents' theater room.
9) I'm super excited for college football (and fall in general). Especially now that we'll have a big screen TV. What I'm not excited for: all the lame trash talk. Some people are just so rude! It's just a game!
