Warning: I have a lot of random topics I want to blog about tonight, so prepare for quite the eclectic mix of posts!
The other nurse I work with at ARTEC asked me the other day how he could go about getting BYU nursing students to do a rotation there. So I got on the good 'ole nursing.byu.edu and looked around for some contact information for professors. But then I noticed that you can search an alumni directory for the school of nursing. How cool! I pulled up a list of all the people I graduated with, and I was surprised how many friends were on that list! People I'd forgotten about and lost touch with. Nursing school is rough, and I think you create a special bond with those that you survive it with. I mean, how could you not? They're the girls you carpooled with up to SLC at 6:00am more times than you want to think about, who knocked on your door loud enough to wake up your roommates when you overslept (oops!), the girls who put an NG tube down your throat (and yes, you put one down theirs), the girls you had to keep talking to on the drive home from clinical to keep them awake, the girls you worked on projects with and dressed up for the Homecoming Parade with, the girls who spilled your blood all over the desk when starting their first IV, etc. I sure didn't think back then that I would ever look back on those times so fondly! I think a part of it is that I'm enough removed from the horrors of it all (thank goodness!), and those nursing memories were mixed in with tons of other great college memories. I sure hope I kept a good journal! It makes me nostalgic, but then I realize how lucky I am to have such good memories and to be where I am. Now maybe I'll start looking into getting back in contact with those wonderful girls.....
