What a Novel Idea!

I went to the library last night to pick up some books on backpacking/hiking, since I want to take a backpacking trip in Moab sometime this year. Yeah, there are a lot of things I want to do. But anyways, while there I perused the books on CD for something to listen to while commuting. I tried this last year (or the year before), and never really got into the books I picked. And there aren't a ton of these books on CD at the library, so the pickings can be slim. I thought about Shakespeare but decided that might be a bit much, then there were some of those self-help books about influencing people, how to get rich, yada, yada. I feel like they're just teaching you how to manipulate people, and there's more to life than making tons of money. So I kept looking, and I found it: Jane Eyre. I've never read this, but I know it's a classic. Really, if you know me you know I'm not that much into reading. Unless the book has the words "Harry Potter" in the title. I'm still halfway though a book that I started reading a year ago. And the book's not bad, it's just that reading's not my priority. I could say that I don't have time, but that's all relative. Everyone has time to do what they want, you just choose how you spend it. And here I am, blogging. :) So anyways, I would love to be "well-read" but know that's just not in the cards for a gal like me. But this could be the solution to my problem! I don't have to focus so much since I'm just listening to someone else read the story, and I'm just filling up time that would be wasted listening to such quality radio shows as "The Morning Zoo." Entertaining, but definitely not helping me to be a better person.

So I started it today, and I'm actually pretty interested already. And I'm exicted to get into the other classics of literature. There's a whole world of books out there waiting (and lots of driving time to be filled up...)!

I don't know if my last comment worked. Anyway, you'll have to let me know if you like it. I've never read it and have heard mixed reviews :)

And if you get tired of the classics there's Artemis Fowl! :-) And I've been listening to Ender's Game again lately. Good books are a wondrous thing :-). We're reading Goose Girl in our RS book club. I havne't started yet but I'm looking forward to it.

I LOVE Jane Eyre, but I couldn't really tell you why. But I'll warn you, don't try anymore Charlotte Bronte unless you want to be hugely depressed. I also recommend Jane Austen - one of my favorites is "Northanger Abbey" because she's totally making fun of the main character in a nice way. I bet you could put some books on hold at the library and then you won't have to search the shelves (which can be terribly depressing at your library).
